At FLAG we observed World Mental Health Day on Tuesday 10th October, a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health in both individual lives and society. As per the WHO ‘Mental health is a universal human right’ and rightfully so our Grade 11 & 12 Psychology students conducted a workshop for the Grade 10 students on ‘Dealing with Anxiety’ before their upcoming board exams.
The student-led workshop under the guidance of their facilitator included a deeper understanding on the causes of anxiety and the connectedness to our mind that often puts us in a fight/flight mode due to the emotional hijack.
The energy in the room was one of great engagement as each activity equipped the students with coping skills to destress. From learning the art of zentangle with meditative music, to recreating yoga poses and breaking impromptu into ‘just dance’, it was an extremely rejuvenating and a fun session. The breathing technique of 4-7-8 that calms the body into a relaxation mode was also demonstrated and practised. The session ended with every student translating their ambitions through the vision board. An exchange of sharings enabled motivation and we are sure that our students will be more mindful about self care and extend care towards their peers as well.
