The benefits of organising the ‘Math-E-Mavericks’ day at FLAG on Tuesday, 27th February hosted by our grade 6 geniuses was absolutely worth calculating.
The day was truly unique because it purposefully connected parents to classroom learning and building strong family-school bonds. It actively engaged both the parent and the child as partners through hands-on fun mathematical challenges. The different stations drawing attention with enticing names and props related to the topic enabled parents to get involved on a more academic level in an interesting way.
Our aim to develop a life-long appreciation of maths in our students was evident through the equation shared between parents and students. The activities generated much excitement about maths thereby increasing confidence and dispelling anxiety amongst students. We are also certain that our attempt in creating a sense of community by partnering with parents towards the common goal of educating has impacted our young students positively.
