Tell me and I forget
Teach me and I remember
Involve me and I learn
Benjamin Franklin
This quote stands true, as students of grade 7 were engaged and involved during their chemistry class to gain a deeper understanding about metals and non-metals. They observed and assessed different materials using magnets and electric circuit testing materials (wires, AA batteries and light bulbs) based on the physical properties of color, luster, conductivity, malleability, and magnetism. Following which students applied their prior knowledge about physical properties of elements and grouped the materials as either metals or non-metals.
Moving a step further, students used an inquiry in action chemistry simulation on their devices to choose and test materials to make different objects for example a fish tank, bike tyre, baseball bat, frying pan, towel, raincoat etc.
