A Story of Stories: Middle School Storytelling Celebrations.
The storytelling celebrations in Middle School unfolded like a well-planned story itself: One step leading naturally to the next.
It began with students exploring in Drama, how stories are told in books, films, and theatre. As they observed and compared, they realised that while the core story may remain the same, the way it is presented can change how it is understood and experienced.
Soon after, they were introduced to another form of storytelling – puppetry. Through a puppet show performed by the PYP teachers, students saw how stories could be brought to life using different materials and movement. This led them to learn about different types of puppets, including string, shadow, finger, and stick puppets, and how each one is created and used.
Finally came the concluding chapter of this journey – ‘Be the Antagonist’. Students chose a character often seen as the villain and retold the story from that perspective. As they did so, they began to see that every story can have more than one point of view.
By the end of the celebrations, students had not just learned about storytelling—they had understood that stories can be told, shaped, and even rethought
