Making Space for Learning: Inquiry Through Space Exploration
As learners entered the room, there were no instructions.
They paused. Looked up. Moved closer.
One learner softly shared, “It feels like we’re inside space.”
A few nodded, continuing to look around quietly.
The designed environment invited observation, conversation, and exploration before any teaching began.
Learners shared what they already knew and wondered aloud—Why is space dark? How does the Moon get its light? Why can’t we stand on gas giants like Jupiter? Their questions were captured on the Wonder Wall.
Through hands-on learning centres, learners explored by observing, experimenting, and putting their concepts together. At one centre, a learner slowly rotated a globe and said, “So it’s not the Sun moving , it’s us.”
A reminder that when spaces are thoughtfully designed, learning doesn’t need to be directed -it begins.
P.S. A special mention to our young astronauts –Almir, Burhannudin, and Umar, who shared facts about space and helped create an authentic space-like feel for the learners.
